How to get more Google reviews (without breaking Google's rules)

The ethical review-generation playbook that took our clients from 20 to 200+ reviews — and what to never do.

Reviews are the currency of local trust. A business with 200 reviews at 4.9★ will beat a competitor with 30 reviews at 5.0★ almost every time. But here's the trap: the fastest ways to get reviews are also the fastest ways to get suspended. Here's the ethical playbook that actually works.

Never do these

  • Never offer discounts or gifts for reviews. Google explicitly bans incentivized reviews — and it's easy to detect.
  • Never review yourself or your staff. It's a fast track to a permanent ban.
  • Never use review pods or bought reviews. Fake reviews get filtered or wiped, and your profile can be suspended.
  • Never put "leave us a 5-star review" on a public sign. It looks like steering and invites complaints.

Do these instead

1. Ask at the moment of delight

Timing is everything. Ask right after a successful job, a great service interaction or a positive conversation — not a week later when the feeling has faded.

2. Make the link one tap away

Send a direct review link via WhatsApp right after the interaction. Every extra tap loses you half your reviewers. A direct link makes it effortless.

3. Automate the request

Use a simple n8n/WhatsApp workflow: job marked done → automatic review request. Our clients typically jump from 5 to 25+ reviews a month with automation alone.

4. Respond to everything

Respond to every review — good and bad — within a week. It signals engagement to Google and shows future customers you care.

5. Handle negative reviews in private

Publicly acknowledge, apologize where warranted, then take the resolution to a private channel (WhatsApp or phone). Many reviewers will update their rating after a great recovery experience.

6. Put reviews on your website

Display your Google reviews with a widget. It closes deals before a customer even calls you.

We run review-generation campaigns for clients — automated requests, professional responses and recovery playbooks. Every plan is custom-quoted based on your review goals.
